Thanks to all who helped make International Astrology Day a rousing success! That includes those who "just" came and listened to the presentations, maybe made some new friends, chatted with old ones and enjoyed being a part of a growing community of astrologers.
Join us at UAC!
SFAS along with other West Coast astrological groups will have an information table at the United Astrology Conference. Volunteers are needed to help keep the table open. In the vendor's hall this will be a great place to hang out with local friends and to meet new people. At conferences we usually run into locals who aren't familiar with local resources, so this booth will make it easier to make new connections with our neighbors and to let folks coming to the Bay Area know when and where to meet the astrologers. SFAS invites you to join us on the last Thursday of the month for a lively astrological presentation, discussion and excellent company.
Regular meetings start at 7:30 pm and are held at the Fort Mason Center, Building C, Room C-260 -- in San Francisco's Marina District. Parking and public transit available.
(In November and December, to accomodate the holidays -- and when there are special events at Ft. Mason -- meetings may be earlier in the month, but still always on Thursdays.)
Regular Meetings, open to the general public, cost $7 for members and $12 for non-members.
New Rates Begin in JulyBeginning July 2012 regular meetings will cost $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
$2 discounts off meeting fees for:
- Students with a student ID card
- Senior citizens (age 65+),
- People experiencing their Uranus Return (born 1927 or earlier) with membership get in for free!

Pluto and the US Chart: Shifting Power Relationships
Pluto has just entered Capricorn, returning to the sign of our nation's Pluto. A country with Pluto in Capricorn has a power base or government that can be based on corporations and their influence, unless there is intervention by the people. Pluto works at a global level, eventually giving the masses what they need to correct power inequities. First, however, he puts everyone through a long slow roll so we have time to feel the impact of power imbalances related to the sign he's in. His intent isn't to kill us individually, although it can sure feel like it - and at times we wish he would. Instead he exposes what power inequities are killing us through collective thought and action, ultimately providing opportunities for rebalancing power. This eye-opening presentation traces Pluto through each sign to show the shifting power dynamics in historical context, who is impacted, and what corrective measures are/were taken. Both astrologers and non-astrologers will find value in this presentation.
Deborah Smith Parker is re-writing the often impenetrable language of astrology into a much friendlier form. Humanus Astrologicus is her first book to this aim. Her 30 plus years as an astrologer, poet and writer coupled with her work in healthcare management, public policy and housing rights have provided many outlets for demonstrating her ability to break down highly complex systems into more easily digestible forms. Whatever she does she is incapable of writing on any topic without including some form of humor. Currently Vice President of the San Diego Astrological Society, Parker is a practicing astrologer. She is also an astrological writer and blogger as well as a published writer on non-astrological topics. Parker is working on her second book, Canis Astrologicus, which summarizes years of research into how astrology applies to instinctive creatures, namely dogs. An English major and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she lives in San Diego with her husband Jeff, a homeopath, and Eli their Cattle Dog.
