The San Francisco Astrological Society (SFAS) provides an affordable monthly forum for people interested in astrology to gather and explore this ancient language. We welcome any person, from lay person to professional astrologer, who wants to delve deeper into the significance of the stars and planets on earthly life. Our guest presenters are invited from among the many excellent Bay Area astrologers, both from within and without the Society, providing an arena for the development and distribution of ideas and techniques in the field of astrology.

What to do when Progressed Mercury Changes Signs or Houses, Turns Retrograde or Goes Direct
This is an exploration of what happens when we begin to think, talk, observe and develop a new perspective as a result of a progressed Mercury change. It can be awkward, frustrating and even downright embarrassing as we try to express ourselves in a way that is unfamiliar. This lecture is chock-full of real-life stories (both famous and not; names will be changed when necessary to protect an identity) that bring this shift vividly to life. It will help attendees learn to both identify the evolving Mercury needs of their clients, friends and themselves. My goal is to help them learn how to optimize all aspects of the experience.
Joyce Van Horn:
"When I was a kid growing up in nearby Burlingame, I used to gaze at the night sky for hours. I knew that it was speaking to me but couldn’t yet understand its language. I knew that the cosmos had meaning. Once I began studying astrology at the age of 12, it became a grand obsession and undying love.
"I’ve been a full-time, professional astrologer in San Francisco since 1984. I am an second-level certified Evolutionary Astrologer (as trained by Steven Forrest) with active clientele in the United States and Canada. One of my greatest loves is teaching all levels of Evolutionary Astrology: beginning, intermediate and advanced. Additionally, I lecture to professional organizations and offer astrological workshops. Since September 2006, I have co-facilitated the ongoing Northern California Steven Forrest Apprenticeship Retreat twice yearly. Over the years I’ve authored several astrology columns and articles. One of my articles was accepted and published by The Mountain Astrologer. I am a member of NCGR, AFAN and SFAS."
