Ralfee Finn, Astrology in World Religions
This lecture explores several astrological traditions and how they are related to the religion of that tradition. As part of that exploration, Ralfee examines varied beliefs about the sky, beliefs that are described through diverse cosmologies. While the structures, classifications, descriptions, and stories of the sky may vary from tradition to tradition, they all seem to share a common thread: celestial motion is an expression of the sacred. The language used to describe how celestial motion relates to the lives and events human beings experience on earth is called “astrology.” All cultures have astrology, including contemporary cultures, even if it is only the ubiquitous sun sign column printed along side of the funnies in newspapers and magazines. Why has astrology played such an important role throughout history and why does it still continue to be important.
Ralfee Finn writes the Aquarium Age, a nationally syndicated astrology column published in print and online. Ralfee holds an MA in Cultural Astronomy from Bath Spa University, in the Untied Kingdom, and currently teaches Astrology in World Religion at Hunter College, City University of New York.
