Join us at UAC!
SFAS along with other West Coast astrological groups will have an information table at the United Astrology Conference. Volunteers are needed to help keep the table open. In the vendor's hall this will be a great place to hang out with local friends and to meet new people. At conferences we usually run into locals who aren't familiar with local resources, so this booth will make it easier to make new connections with our neighbors and to let folks coming to the Bay Area know when and where to meet the astrologers. This is a great opportunity to network for the group and for yourself! Please contact Fabienne at events@sfastrologicalsociety.com to volunteer.

Peter Burns
Planetary Hours: Their use in traditional astrology & importance for the understanding of time.
In this lecture Peter Burns describes the concept of planetary hours and their use in astrological practice. Planetary hours go to the heart of astrology in our understanding of the unique quality of time. One of the most fundamental assumptions of astrology, so rarely stated, is that the quality of time varies from moment to moment. While the use of clocks in modern society might lead us to accept that time is a stream of uniform moments of equal quality, ancient astrology points to a different conclusion.
In this lecture Peter Burns will explain the meaning of planetary hours, how they are used and how to calculate them quickly without a computer. Peter will also explain some applications of the planetary hours in horary and natal astrology.

Interpreting the Fixed Stars in Your Horoscope
One of the least understood areas of astrology is that of the fixed stars. The irony is that the general public associates astrology with the "the stars." Many astrologers associate the meaning of fixed stars with disaster and destruction and view their use as fatalistic. However further study reveals a surprising depth of spiritual understanding which underpins this ancient knowledge. The incorporation of fixed stars into the modern astrologer's toolkit requires subtlety and appropriate use within the context of meaning provided by the natal horoscope. In this lecture Peter will explore some of the mystery that lies behind the awesome power contained within the fixed stars. In particular he will explore the meaning 'Royal Stars' and discuss how to use and interpret the fixed stars in the natal horoscope.
Peter Burns has studied and taught contemporary and ancient astrology and palmistry since 1989 and lectured at the West Australian, NSW and Victorian Associations, the Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) International Astrology Conferences and recently at SOTA in New York. He was a regular guest on ABC radio in Perth Western Australia and on 3RRR in Melbourne Victoria. Peter was FAA vice-president and VAA president 2006-2008. He has been national editor of the FAA Journal since 2000. Peter is a member of ISAR, AFAN, the Australian Professional Astrologers Association and the FAA. Peter Burns now runs online distance education correspondence courses in Astrology Foundation Studies, Horary Astrology, and Palmistry through his school: Ambrosia Academy of Astrology.
