The Mercury Elemental Year
The Mercury retrogrades occur in a single elemental triplicity each year. This means that each of us was born with an unconscious preference for one elemental mode of symbol making, a vintage shared with everyone born that year. By understanding the qualities of each Element, and the basic human needs it corresponds to as a Temperament, we can then begin to explore the collective functions and roles of Mercury for each vintage. Further, this birth vintage individuates through a deep resonance within a particular trigon of houses in each natal chart, especially the two houses containing the pre- and post-natal retrogrades – and these houses more clearly reveal our potential roles as agents of change for the collective expressions of Mercury.
Gary P Caton is a transdisciplinary astrologer who maintains an active sacred relationship with the living Sky as his temple. Initiated as an astrologer by a magnificent dream in 1993, Gary has since become an accomplished and sought after astro-photographer, writer and lecturer. Gary combines the experiential power and dynamic images of the living Sky with classic horoscopy and metaphysics, and delivers this alchemical blend through the matrix of bleeding edge modern research and pioneering technique. His first book, Hermetica Triptycha: The Mercury Elemental Year, has received rave reviews. Catch Gary online via the popular Hermetic Astrology Podcast.
