The Practical Uses of Fixed Stars

There’s something delightfully earth-centered about ancient star lore which has helped shape our astrological tradition over many millennia. Ancient astrologers made great use of the arrangement of fixed stars, considering their seasonal rising and setting times, their placement within their own constellation (shoulder vs. neck, foot vs. wing), their apparent color and magnitude, etc.  In studying the stars, we learn more about ourselves, especially when we consider how that knowledge is oriented, structured and presented.  In this presentation, we will focus on using fixed star interpretations within a modern consultation framework for nativities, elections and horaries.  Resources for fixed star research and investigation will be provided alongside generous handout material.  This presentation will be suitable for astrologers of all levels.

Wade Caves,  based in San Francisco, is an astrological consultant and educator specializing in classical astrological technique.  Wade was certified with honors from the Mayo School of Astrology, and received certification as a horary practitioner from Deborah Houlding’s School of Traditional Astrology (STA), where he now serves as a faculty member. Wade’s focus is in understanding the historical and philosophical origins of astrological symbolism, and finding reliable ways to put this information to practical use in a consultation setting.  He is the editor and annotator of the 300th anniversary edition of William Lilly’s History of His Life & Times (Rubedo Press, 2015).
